Linux /Home directory is good

I've just read a post
(HTTP://menza.org/2007/09/why-a-seperate-home-rocks) about why the /Home
directory on a separate partition on Linux is good, and it's totally
true, then if you upgrade to the next version of your prefer Linux
distribution (like Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Debian, Suse, Fedora etc.) all your
preference, your choice of wallpaper, your desktop theme and so, will be
there to meet you, also if you have multiple Linux distributions using
the same Desktop (Gnome, KDE etc.) and switch from one to the other,
you won't have to search where everything is, it's there where you put
it.

On a Desktop, if it's on a separate drive, then if the drive on which
the Operating System is fail, then just replace that drive, re-install
Ubuntu (or your preferred one) and your good to go.

Also if you have to send your computer for repair and the /Home
partition is on a separate drive then you can remove it, send your
computer for repair and if it's dead and ready to be buried, put that
drive with your Home partition in a new computer, and you are ready to
go.

Desktop and Laptop users, BACKUP as often as possible your data, to
CD/DVD, external hard drive or on-line storage, but BACKUP

nous faisaient part de modifications apporté par le Câblodistributeur/Fournisseur d'accès Internet/Téléphonie par câble/Téléphonie cellulaire Videotron (http://www.videotron.com) au forfait Haute vitesse Extrême qui était illimité dans le téléchargement aval/amont (download/upload) en y mettant une limite combiner de 100 Go, (http://www.ztele.com/emission/la_revanche_des_nerdz/blog/billet.jsp?postId=537)

il nous fais aussi part de ce qui selon lui, auraient été plus juste (http://www.ztele.com/emission/la_revanche_des_nerdz/blog/billet.jsp?postId=545)

Il est vraie que 100Go en téléchargement c'est beaucoup, mais Mr. Forget a raison, en modifiant a la baisse la vitesse de téléchargement après 100Go, aurais été une solution plus adequate et respectueuse des clients.

Suite a tous ceci, il est a ce demander si Vidéotron est sur le chemin de devenir aussi arrogante et irrespectueuse de ses clients que BELL CANADA (http://bell.ca).


P.S.: Gros merci a Pascal Forget pour si bien nous informer et nous distraire, ainsi qu'a sa chatte pour lui garder son clavier bien au chaud.

Accès a vos fichiers avec Ubuntu 7.10 LiveCD/ Access to your files with Ubuntu 7.10 LiveCD

ATTENTION - ATTENTION
TOUTES LES MANIPULATIONS QUI SUIVENT
PEUVENT RENDRE VOTRE SYSTÈME INUTILISABLE
Vous les faisez a vos risques

Supposons que suite a une panne de courant, vous n'avez plus accès a votre Ubuntu, essayez ceci.

Insérez le liveCD dans le lecteur de CD/DVD et redémarrez.
Après avoir initialisé le LiveCD, allez à Système > Administration > Utilisateurs et groupes
Cliquer sur "+ ajouter un utilisateur"
entrer votre nom d'utilisateur (USERNAME) que vous avez déjà créé pour votre système Ubuntu, votre nom, votre mot de passe et le clic VALIDEZ puis FERMER

Maintenant allez dans Système > Quitter, choisissez
Changer d'utilisateur

Ceci ressemble à l'arrêt, mais attendez et ne paniquez pas, une nouvelle fenêtre de connections vas apparaitre.

Entrez votre NOM D'UTILISATEUR, puis votre MOT DE PASSE

Maintenant vous devriez être dans votre Bureau Gnome et avoir accès à vos dossiers.

Pour vérifier, allez dans Raccourcis > Poste de travail

Vous devriez avoir toute vos partitions sous formes d'icone, comme Disk1, Disk2 etc... (ou quelque chose de similaire) doublez cliquez sur n'importe quel icon, et une fenêtre devrais s'ouvrir, maintenant vous devriez pouvoir modifier n'importe quel dossier.

Dans l'espoir que ceci vous seras utile.

P.S. : Je vous suggéraient fortement d'imprimer une copie de cd billet (et de toutes autres vous ayant été utiles,) de ce fait créant vos propres documentations de secours/référence, juste au cas où.

Let say that after a power failure, you have no longer access to your Ubuntu system because some files have been corrupted and you want to repair it, you'll need read/write access to those files.
In your CD/DVD Drive insert a ubuntu 7.10 LiveCD and reboot.

After booting from the LiveCD, go to System > User and Group
click on "add user"

enter the usrename you already have created for your Ubuntu system, your name, your password and click VALIDATE then CLOSE

Now goto System > Quit
choose CHANGE USERS

It will looks like shutting down, but wait and don't panic, a connection window will appears

Enter your USERNAME, then you PASSWORD

Now you should be in your gnome desktop and have access to your files.

Checking it, goto Places > Computer

You should have all your partition, as Disk1, Disk2 etc. (or something like that) as drive icon, double click on any one, it should open and show its content.

Menu Food

Que pensé de ce qui arrive avec MENU FOOD, depuis une semaine, rappel après rappel, 95 étiquettes sont touchés, si vous êtes comme moi, vous êtes inquiet.
Alors j'ai arrête de donner de la nourritures humide a Tasha, ma chatte noire domestique.
Ne peu me permettre quelle tombe malade, elle est avec moi depuis quelle a
4 mois, elle a maintenant 12 ans.
J'imagine, que comme nous humain la nourriture fait maison devraient être la norme, alors cuisiner pour nos animaux de compagnie, devraient être courant, mais avec nos vies si active, nous dépendont beaucoup sur d'autres pour préparer leur nourritures.

C'est une chose a penser.

Pour tous ceux qui on connus la perte de leur ami a quatre pattes, vous avez mes condoléances.


Well, what about MENU FOOD, for the last week recall after recall, 95 labels are affected, if you are like me, you're worried.
So I've stop feeding wet food to Tasha my Black Domestic she-cat.
Cannot afford for her to get sick, she has been with me since she was 4 month old, and now she's 12 years old.
I guess, like for us human homemade food should be the norm, so cooking for our pet, should a least be the preferred option, but with our busy lives we rely on other to prepared their meals.

Think About it.

To all of you, who have lost a 4 legged friend, you have my Sympathy
